PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A boy, his father, and two women were among seven people killed by gun violence in Philadelphia in a 7 ½ hour period of Memorial Day weekend.
Philadelphia police were searching for the people responsible for each shooting.
According to initial information from police, the string of shootings began with a 56-year-old who was shot and killed at about 9:20 p.m. Sunday evening on North Lawrence Street near West Indiana Avenue in Fairhill. A 33-year-old was also shot seven times during the incident and was hospitalized, listed in stable condition.
At about 10:35 p.m. Sunday night, someone shot the 9-year-old boy and his 38-year-old father multiple times each while they were inside a vehicle on Carver Street near Torresdale Avenue in Wissinoming, police said. Both of them died in the drive-by shooting.
The father and son were returning from a cookout and had parked their car when two people fired at least 13 rounds at the vehicle.
A 20-year-old man was shot multiple times and killed at 1:05 a.m. Monday on West Erie Avenue near North 15th Street in Nicetown-Tioga, according to authorities.
13 minutes later, a teen girl and three adults were shot on East Tioga Avenue near I-95 in Port Richmond, investigators said.
According to police, a pair of women in their early 20s were each shot in the head and killed.
A 21-year-old man was shot three times and a 14-year-old girl was shot in the shoulder during that quadruple shooting, authorities said. Both were hospitalized, and the man was placed in critical condition while the girl was listed in stable condition.
Then at about 4:45 a.m. Monday, a 66-year-old man was shot and killed on Anderson Street by Chelten Avenue in East Germantown, according to police.
No arrests were initially made in any of the shootings. The Philadelphia Police Homicide Unit is investigating each shooting.
