PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A school bus driver in Delaware County has been charged for allegedly taking upskirt photos and videos of teen and preteen girls.

On Tuesday, a female student at the St. Mary Magdalen School, within the Marple Newtown School District, told Upper Providence police that her bus driver took photos of her private parts. Police identified two other victims after obtaining a warrant for the driver’s phone.

Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stolsteimer said Bruce Stanley Garner, 70, of Lansdowne, purposely befriended the girls on the bus, engaging them in conversations that would allow him the opportunity to commit the crime.

“At this time, there’s no evidence to suggest that the bus driver had any contact physically with any of the victims,” said Upper Providence Township Police Chief David Montel.

Stolsteimer did not say how many victims there were, but he praised them for speaking up.

“These young women who came forward are absolute heroes,” he said. “It takes a lot of bravery to come forward and to make allegations about somebody who isn’t a trusted person in your life.”

Garner is charged with 139 counts each of invasion of privacy, unlawful contact with a minor, sexual abuse of children, endangering the welfare of children, and possessing instruments of crime.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for next month.
