CAMDEN, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — It's construction season and several projects are underway in Camden to improve conditions on some heavily traveled roads.
If you've driven through Camden lately, there's a good chance you've cursed at some of the potholes you just couldn't avoid.
Camden County Commissioner Al Dyer is right there with you, Dyer is frustrated with roads in bad shape, and he said the county is spending millions of dollars to make improvements.
"$40 million in funds will be invested into roads and bridges this upcoming construction season," he said.
The biggest project on the list is the repaving and reconstruction of 27th Street from Marlton and Federal Streets to Baird Boulevard, for $10 million.
"That should have been done years ago and for whatever reason, it's getting done now, and I'm glad it's getting done," Dyer said.
"That's going to improve the safety and mobility for vehicles. It's going to reconstruct the roadway, the curbing and sidewalks. We're going to upgrade all curb ramps and crosswalks for improved ADA accessibility."
$2.3 million will also be spent to improve 7th Street in North Camden. Dyer said other roads need work too, but they can't do it all at once.
"Some of the roads we probably can't get to this year," he admitted, "but [we're] making sure that we patch these holes up because some of these holes are huge."
If there's a big pothole driving you nuts, you can report it to the county by calling the Department of Public Works at (856) 566-2980.
