This Center City restaurant is selling burgers for $700. And $2.95

Ironically, the restaurant also serves what it says is the cheapest burger in the city

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — How much could one burger cost? Maybe $12, $15? At DBG in Center City, a lavish new take on the sandwich will set you back 700 bucks.

DBG, formerly known as Drury Beer Garden, is selling what it calls a Gold Standard burger, which consists of 8 ounces of Japanese A5 ribeye wagyu, Wexford aged Irish cheddar cheese, Italian black truffle and caviar, lobster meat flambéed with Louis XIII Cognac, a brioche bun wrapped in gold leaf, and fries drizzled with manuka honey.

It also comes with a 1-ounce pour of Louis XIII Cognac — which costs $350 alone. (The whole bottle goes for nearly $5,000.)

Co-owner George Tsiouris wanted a specialty item for the new burger menu.

“Taste is our No. 1 priority,” said George Tsiouris. “[The ingredients are] reasonably available. They’re just quite expensive.”

Is demand high for a $700 burger? Not really.

“I don’t think that’s going to be our No. 1 seller,” Tsiouris said. “But it’s definitely something fun and people have been talking about it.”

If $700 is too much to spend on a burger, DBG also sells one that it bills as the least expensive burger in the city. The cheeseburger — just a patty, cheese and bun — is only $2.95 during happy hour.

“I think a $700 burger tastes amazing, but so does a $2.95 burger,” said Tsiouris. “I think every burger is subjective and delicious and amazing. … For $700, you’re getting things that you normally wouldn’t eat.”
