PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — A large main break spewed water onto a part of Germantown Pike by the Plymouth Meeting Mall Wednesday afternoon.
Water gushed onto the westbound lanes of the road, near the main entrance of the mall, according to KYW Newsradio’s traffic team.
Cars were diverted onto the mall property, close to Hickory Road, to get around the mess.
Aqua America officials arrived to repair it. They say a 12-inch cast-iron main broke around 11 a.m. and was turned off more than an hour later. The main dates back to 1965.
During the leakage, many homes and businesses had little to no water. Stores at the mall are already up and running again. Only one business, which is off mall property, is still affected as of 1:30 p.m.
Officials say it could take six to eight hours to repair the damage.
As of 1 p.m., traffic was getting by only on the left lane westbound on Germantown Pike from the mall entrance to Hickory Road. The eastbound side is OK, no restrictions.
