Donovan McNabb was impressed by Jalen Hurts' gutsy performance in the Eagles' win over the Cowboys on Sunday, as Hurts battled through his knee injury to get the win.
"First and foremost, when you're in the heat of battle you're not getting taking off the field unless they bring that cart out," McNabb told 94WIP's Jon Marks & Ike Reese on Monday. "That's just a mentality that we have. And at quarterback, I will say, we do have a linebacker's mentality and that's kind of how I always have approached things because I trained that way and so I think Jalen trains that way as well. There's a reason why he's a 700-plus squatter. There's a reason why he benches what he benches and prepares himself for situations that, it's either are you injured or are you hurt? We all are banged up and hurt, but are you injured enough where you can't go anymore."
McNabb, who famously threw four touchdowns for the Eagles in a win over the Cardinals on a broken ankle in 2002, says Hurts understands what it takes to win—which is all the matters for a quarterback.
"You're not only playing for yourself, you are playing for the guys in the locker room...I was impressed with the way he played in the second half knowing he was banged up, but the thing is you couldn't tell what was bothering him...And that says a lot about him about being a leader of the team and that says a lot about his mentality and approach, but he also understands what it takes to win and that's what it is about.
"At the end of the day, we're measured by wins and losses and you've got to do whatever it takes."
Hurts completed 17 of 23 passes for 207 yards, two touchdowns and zero turnovers, while also rushing for a third touchdown in the win, despite suffering a hit to his knee before halftime.
