The Eagles have added some better draft capital in a bizarre way: the Birds have dealt the No. 94 overall pick in the 2023 Draft and a 2024 fifth-round pick to Arizona for this year’s No. 66 selection, that trade the final resolution for a tampering investigation surrounding the Cardinals’ hire of former Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon.

Per an NFL statement released by the teams, the Cardinals self-reported a violation of league policy by GM Monti Ossenfort, who admitted to contacting Gannon shortly after the NFC Championship Game – a period in which contact is not permitted under the league’s Anti-Tampering Policy.

Gannon was hired as Arizona’s new head coach on February 14, less than 48 hours after the Eagles concluded their season by losing Super Bowl LVII – and now, two months later, the issue is resolved by the two teams swapping third-round picks, moving the Birds up 28 selections to the third pick of the round, and Arizona getting next year’s fifth.

It was the first of two trades (so far) on Draft Night for the Birds, who moments later announced they has traded up from 10 to 9, giving Chicago WHAT to move up and select Georgia DT Jalen Carter, who was seen as a potential No. 1 overall selection earlier this year.

The Birds also select at No. 30 later in the round – tune in to WIP’s live draft show for reaction to this and the Carter trade, as well as the remainder of the night leading up to the No. 30 selection!
