The 42-year-old was previously the star of the fifth season of “The Bachelor” in 2004. In the end, Palmer chose Jessica Bowlin but the pair broke up shortly after the season aired.

“For more than 20 years, ‘The Bachelor’ has brought the world dozens of unforgettable love stories, including at one time, my own,” Palmer said in a statement. “Falling in love is one of life’s greatest gifts, and I am humbled by the opportunity to return to the show as host this season to offer the newest Bachelor advice gained from firsthand experience and I am grateful to play a small part in his journey.”

Palmer’s ascension to the gig comes after original host Chris Harrison exited the program earlier this year after defending past racist social media posts from recent "Bachelor" contestant Rachael Kirkconnell during an interview with Rachel Lindsay, the franchise’s first Black “Bachelorette.”

While Harrison apologized for defending Kirconnell and said he was working with a “race educator and strategist” as well as faith leaders and scholars, he officially left the franchise in June.

“Chris Harrison is stepping aside as host of The Bachelor franchise,” ABC said in a statement at the time. “We are thankful for his many contributions over the past 20 years and wish him all the best on his new journey.”

Following his exit, former “Bachelorette” leads Kaitlyn Bristowe and Tayshia Adams shared hosting duties on season 17 of “The Bachelorette.” The duo will also host the upcoming 18th season, which premieres on October 19.

While no official date has been revealed, season 26 of “The Bachelor,” hosted by Palmer, is expected to air in 2022.
