2020 has been a challenging year for us all, especially for those kids going back to school this month. They have had to try and navigate every option and alternative thrown at them, whether it be in person or remote learning. Some have created their own classrooms at home, while others are walking the halls with masks and armored with hand sanitizer.
Even though this year has been unprecedented and crazy, Country superstar, Ryan Hurd, wants to help you sit back, relax, and mentally prepare for going back to school.
Hurd sat down with us to read an excerpt from his favorite children's book, The Velveteen Rabbit. The classic story tells a tale of love between a boy and his stuffed toy rabbit. His admiration for the rabbit was so strong that the toy became real!
Many kids and adults love this book because it has every element that creates a great story: wonder, heartbreak, and magic. It is no coincidence that a story published back in 1922 is still relevant and avidly read today. Like Hurd mentioned at the end, this would be a perfect book to read while snuggling up with your parents before bed.
The Midwest native knows what he is talking about because he has become a master at reading children's books ever since his son Hayes was born a little over five months ago. Hurd and his wife, Maren Morris, have been overjoyed with the amount of time off they have had from touring, which has given them copious amounts of quality time with their baby son.
The quarantine has also given them both time to release new music as Hurd dropped an EP titled EOM, and Morris has released acoustic versions of two of her biggest hits along with two previously unreleased tracks.
When the two are not writing or recording music, they are both spending time with Hayes, whether that is taking him to the pool/lake or reading him stories at night.
Reading with your children before bed can help ease their anxiety over the upcoming school year while also teaching them great comprehension and summarization skills.
