Since John Harbaugh took over as head coach of the Baltimore Ravens back in 2008, the team has won eight of nine games against the Miami Dolphins. And in their last three meetings combined, Baltimore has outscored Miami, 137-16. Suffice to say, sheer dominance.
If history predicts the future, the Ravens' trip to South Beach on Thursday will be successful. And if the team improves to 7-2 and stays atop the AFC North standings, the division race simply becomes theirs to lose, according to JR.
"If you think about the AFC North, as bunched-up as it is, the Ravens should win," JR said during Wednesday's edition of the JR SportBrief show. "The AFC North is packed. It's not just the Ravens and Steelers at the top, but I've got to choose the Ravens to come out victorious when all things are considered.
"Bengals: too young, inconsistent. The Browns: too busted-up. The Steelers: Ben Roethlisberger is hanging on by a thread. The Ravens just seem to be -- as much as their defense can improve -- a wild card every time they play, they seem to be the most complete. They're already the team at the top... This is an imperfect division, but the Ravens are the best of the imperfect teams."
The Ravens, which currently own the second-seed in the AFC playoff picture, played a nail-biter at home last Sunday, beating the Minnesota Vikings, 34-31, in overtime. Lamar Jackson threw for 266 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions, and also rushed for a whopping 120 yards on 21 attempts.
Through eight games, Baltimore's offense ranks second in the NFL in average total yards, first in rushing yards, and seventh in points. Defense hasn't been a source of strength, however -- the unit ranks 23rd in average yards allowed and 21st in points.
Baltimore (6-2) and Miami (2-7) are scheduled to kick off at 8:25 p.m. ET on Thursday night. According to FiveThirtyEight's projections, the Ravens have an 84-percent chance to reach the playoffs and a 58-percent chance to win the AFC North.
