Trapasso: Why WR-needy teams should want Western Michigan star Skyy Moore

Unlike last year's NFL Draft class, the 2022 crop of prospects isn't comprised of must-have quarterbacks, and there isn't a clear consensus first-overall pick across the league's most reputable mock draft boards. But on Thursday night in Las Vegas, there's a strong possibility that receivers will be in high demand during the opening round, as this loaded group features high-end playmakers with a wide array of pro-level skillsets.

Naturally, the league's most popular receiving prospects suited up for top-tier schools. Atop teams' boards is Alabama standout Jameson Williams, followed by Ohio State stars Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave and USC star Drake London. Whenever those four wideouts come off the board, there won't be a big drop-off in talent. And according to CBS Sports draft analyst Chris Trapasso, one of his favorite 2022 prospects didn't even play for a lauded Power Five program.

"One name that I'll throw in for my draft darling during this pre-draft process is Skyy Moore from Western Michigan," Trapasso told the Reiter Than You show on Tuesday. "If you put him on the Packers or Chiefs, you could throw him the ball 100-125 times as a rookie. He'd be a 70-85 catch player, over 1,000 yards, close to 10 touchdowns. He really has a very well-rounded game and showed at the NFL Combine that he has a first-round athletic profile, too...

"He's really a player who seems further ahead of most receivers in this class. Most wideouts struggle to beat press coverage, off the line of scrimmage -- Moore doesn't. He uses quickness, his handwork very good. His separation ability is certainly there. He's forced a ton of missed tackles. He's kind of like a running back after the catch... Down the field, he ran a 4.41 at the Combine. He has a gigantic catch radius, plays a lot bigger than playing at 5-foot-10..."

Moore, who's listed at 5-foot-10 and 195 pounds, is currently the fifth-ranked receiver and 22nd overall prospect on the Pro Football Focus draft big board. In three seasons with Western Michigan, which plays in the MAC conference, the 21-year-old racked up 171 catches for 2,482 yards with 16 touchdowns in 30 games. In 2021, Moore ranked ninth in the nation in receptions (95), 14th in yards (1,292), and tied for 21st in touchdowns (10). He also broke an FBS-high 26 tackles, and helped the Broncos upset Pittsburgh with 124 yards.
