Rachel Bilson is opening up about her relationship with “The O.C.” co-star Adam Brody, revealing that it was more meaningful than many fans might think.

Bilson, 39, and Brody, 41, dated 2003 to 2006 starring alongside each other in C.W.’s hit teen drama series. Although the two ended their relationship before the show’s fourth and final season aired, the “Hart of Dixie” star revealed her relationship with Brody helped her adjust to life in the spotlight.

“Because of what the show was and how young we all were, going through it with someone experiencing the same thing and having that kind of support was really awesome,” Bilson told Nylon magazine in a recent interview. “I’m actually grateful that I did have it. It was definitely a unique experience and I don’t think anyone else could have really understood it had they not been in it.”

Bilson, who also starred in the comedy-drama series “Take Two,” said that dating someone who knew exactly what she was going through at that time “was super helpful and supportive,” adding, “I have total gratitude for the whole experience,” US Weekly reported.

Adam Brody went on to marry “Gossip Girl” alum Leighton Meester in 2014. The two share a 5-year-old daughter, Arlo, and a 7-month-old whose name has not been publicly released. Bilson shares daughter Briar, 6, with ex Hayden Christensen.

Bilson also admitted that she has struggled with staying close to her former cast members. After she congratulated “The O.C” season regular Ben McKenzie on the birth of his son with Morena Baccarin, she felt inspired to plan a reunion with the original cast.

“We’ve all talked about getting together, so we’re hoping that happens sometime soon,” Bilson said. “We just want to get together, get all the kids together. It’s just so crazy. Everyone has kids, or a lot of us do, anyway. It’d be a trip for sure.”
