According to Halsey, Spears was fully on board with her 2000 hit being repurposed and interpolated in Halsey’s upcoming track of the same name. “Yes of course!” Halsey wrote on X answering a fan who asked if the Britney had been involved. “I wouldn’t even dream of doing it without her blessing!”
Halsey announced that “Lucky,” set to arrive July 26, would be the first official single off her upcoming album. Sharing a sneak peek at the track, as well a very Y2K-inspired video clip.
“When I was 5, it always felt like Britney was singing directly to me,” Halsey captioned an IG post earlier this month. “24 years later, these words hit different. love you forever.”
Halsey also answered several other fan questions on X, one of which was about the inspiration behind her new music. “I wrote a lot about what I was going through,” Halsey said. “I felt like I couldn’t tell anyone, though it was mostly my choice to not. but the weight of it all and looking at my life wondering if I was happy with who I was. While simultaneously changing against my will.”
Another fan inquired, “how do you feel about sharing your most intimate feelings and personal life with us?” To which Halsey answered, “I tried to take a break for some privacy. And then I got sick. And the break lasted 2 years longer than I had wanted/intended. and I was just desperate to do the thing I love again. It’s different now. But I still love it and I have so much gratitude.”
In June, Halsey geared up to begin this new era with “The End,” a pre-cursor single full of vulnerable lyrics about her diagnosis with Lupus and a rare T-cell disorder.
Halsey also seemingly hinted at plans to hit the road following the album’s release, answering a fan who asked, “is a tour realistic for this era?” Replying, “I’m ⭐️running⭐️ to the stage.”
