One letter was all it took to send the current “Jeopardy!” champion packing.
Nine-day winner Ben Chan misspelled a Shakesperean name and saw his streak get snapped.
The game show’s episode was a close match between Chan and other contestant Lynn Di Vito, with Final Jeopardy still being up in the air for who would take the win.
The category was “Shakespeare’s Characters” with the clue being: “Both of the names of these two lovers in a Shakespeare play come from Latin words for ‘blessed’”.

The answer was Beatrice and Benedict from “Much Ado About Nothing”. Not one of the contestants gave a correct answer. Chan lost the most, betting $12,201. Di Vito ended up being the evening’s winner.
Chan was so close as his written answer showed “Beatrice and Benedict”. He was not awarded a correct guess as he was off by one letter.
“Jeopardy!” fans were not pleased with the ruling.
Users took to Twitter to call the ruling “awful” and a “terrible technicality”.
One avid watcher even said they “hate” the fact Ben would have been correct had he been answering the question audibly, but was dinged wrong because it was written for Final Jeopardy.
