There’s been plenty of crazy stories from the GRAMMY Awards over the years and now Phoebe Bridgers has a contribution of her own.

Audacy’s Megan Holiday spoke with Phoebe Bridgers following her set at Coachella as her performance marked a dream that was years in the making. “I used to stare and glare at people playing Coachella and be like ‘it should have been me’ while I was like 15 and making horrible music,” Bridgers said.

The conversation then turned to Bridgers’ fabulous 2020 album Punisher, which earned her four nominations at the 2021 GRAMMY Awards. Being nominated for an award was of course memorable, but Bridgers cherished the opportunity to spend the moment with her family. “I got to hang out with my brother the whole time, which was super fun,” she said. “We got to wear matching goth costumes.”

The show came at a time when COVID-19 vaccines were just being made widely available, which meant that the usual mingling that takes place at the GRAMMYs was still scaled back. “It kind of sucks because we were divided by these weird walls because it was so COVID-strict, which was awesome, but you didn’t really get to hang out with or see anybody,” Bridgers said. “You kind of like, waved at people.”

There’s one keepsake from the evening that the Bridgers family has in their possession and it involves none other than Doja Cat.  “My mom was picking up Doja Cat’s feathers that were falling off her dress and putting them in her purse,” Bridgers said. “That was like, the only human interaction at the GRAMMYs.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Bridgers discussed her plans for releasing music the rest of the year. Or rather… The unknowns that may influence her musical plans for the rest of the year.

“Who knows,” Bridgers responded when Holiday asked if her single “Sidelines” was the only song she was going to put out this year. “I try to do things that are exciting so I never really know what I’m going to do,” she said. “Dropping a mixtape tomorrow,” she added with a laugh.
