The R&B songstress began the interview speaking about her single “Taboo,” which samples Alexander O’Neal’s “If You Were Here Tonight.” The track appears on the singer-songwriter’s latest release Drunken Wordz Sober Thoughtz. The deluxe version of the project arrived this month with 20 songs.

“I have such a deep appreciation for all the Black music that came before us,” Streeter told Kenny Burns. “We would not exist if we did not stand on the shoulders of giants.” Streeter says she grew up listening to great music – and credits her parents for always playing Black classics in their household.

Streeter’s songwriting stems from her personal life. “I like to take our life experiences and conversations and throw them into records,” she expressed. “And ‘Taboo’ is honestly a lesson that I had to learn myself.” According to Streeter, “Taboo” is about a relationship feeling like it's “too good to be true” and self-sabotaging it before it can flourish. Apparently, the underlying meaning of the song is “too good, does not have to be taboo.”

Staying on topic, the R&B singer dished on dating in today’s world, specifically when it comes to social media and the internet. “...I think the fun thing about dating is getting to learn somebody. But I’m not mad about a little background check [laughs]. I need to know all my red flags.”

However, Streeter is currently single and focused on her music career. “I’m dating myself, I’m dating this music, I’m dating my tour, I’m dating my albums. And I will date and make time for good distractions. But you better be a good distraction and not a bad one…,” said Streeter.
