The Department of Defense and United States Air Force are having a competition you might be interested in.

The DoD and Air Force’s Defense Digital Service will launch its Space Security Challenge 2020, a mix of virtual workshops and prize challenges related to securing space systems, from Aug. 7 to 9, according to a release.

The event is part of DEFCON Safe Mode and  includes a live capture-the-flag style satellite competition dubbed “Hack-A-Sat.”

“Space is an increasingly important contributor to global economies and security,” said Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics Dr. Will Roper. “Letting experts hack an orbiting satellite will teach us how to build more secure systems in the future.”

Eight teams were selected to participate in the Hack-A-Sat challenge following a qualifying event in late May. During the challenge, the teams will be challenged to reverse engineer and operate satellite systems in order to earn “flags” or binary codes.

You can visit hackasat.com  to access a 3D Hacker’s Den experience. In addition, a 3D Satellite Ops Center will broadcast live programming throughout the three-day event, including a keynote show called “Between Two Nerds”  with Defense Digital Services Director Brett Goldstien and Roper.
