A female National Guard soldier is set to graduate special forces training and become a Green Beret according to unnamed sources from the New York Times.
Although women have served alongside special operations service members in various capacities such as analysts and advisors, the organization officially opened jobs to women in 2016. Last year, a spokesman confirmed to ArmyTimes that a female soldier had completed the initial Special Forces Assessment and Selection process but it is unclear if this is the same individual.
A National Guard spokesperson said, “We can't project a soldier's will graduate from a school.”
According to the Times, the enlisted soldier is expected to graduate the Special Forces Qualification Course a Special Forces engineer sergeant.
