Naval Air Station Corpus Christi in Corpus Christi, Texas was put on lockdown for about an hour Wednesday after someone reported a civilian employee made verbal threats.
A suspect is in custody according to the base Facebook page. There have been no reports of injuries or shots fired and the suspect was not armed.
NAS Corpus Christi published a message on its Facebook account at approximately 7:30 am alerting everyone to "remain in place."
Security forces on bases apprehended the suspect and once deemed safe, the lockdown notice was lifted. The public was encouraged to remain clear of building 8 on the base, the largest tenant aboard the installation.
“I am relieved to report no one was injured,” said Capt. Chris Jason, NASCC CO. “The safety of our employees and families, and of our surrounding community, is my top priority.
“We are keenly aware of the recent incidents at other naval installations and we train diligently to respond to such situations. I am very proud of the prompt response from our Navy and Army Security Forces, and I am grateful for the outstanding support provided by local and federal law enforcement.”
All gates on base have been opened. Federal authorities are investigating the event but military officials say the incident is not connected to "recent events at other naval installations."
Last Wednesday, an active duty sailor killed two civilian Department of Defense employees before killing himself at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
Two days later, a Saudi military aviation student killed three sailors in a classroom building at Naval Air Station Pensacola in Pensacola, Florida. According to BBC News, eight people, including two officers were injured in the incident.
Authorities have not found a link between either events.
