Military veteran turned fake cop James Hoefert chased down and shoot at a pickup truck driver while his two kids were in the backseat in a bizarre sequence of events. Hoefert had a dash cam mounted inside his vehicle which recorded the entire incident, which began when a neighbor pointed out a nearby pickup truck saying that the owner was a trouble maker. Court documents later revealed the driver of the truck to be Nathaniel Jack who is wanted by the police for questioning and has a prior drunk driving incident.
Why Hoefert decided to begin harassing him remains unclear but after a brief confrontation, Hoefert pulled his gun on Jack, with the altercation then turning into a high-speed chase as Hoefert blared sirens and emergency lights he had in his car. Hoefert's two young children were buckled into the backseat for the duration.
While driving, Hoefert got on the phone, presumably with a 911 operator and said, "I am armed. I'm about to blast this guy in the face. I have two kids in the car and he's causing a lot of shit."
Jack backed up and rammed Hoefert's vehicle, who then got out and attempted to chase after Jack's truck on foot but tripped and fell. Getting back into his car, he gave chase once more. Jack stopped and backed up to ram Hoefert's car again. His children can be heard crying in the backseat. Hoefert then got out of his truck and discharged his pistol at the pickup truck as it speeds away.
Hoefert was arrested for the shooting, endangering his children, and improperly using emergency equipment to which he plead guilty. He is currently awaiting sentencing.
