Thousands turned out Tuesday for the funeral of an 80-year-old Army veteran in Florida who died with no immediate family.
Pearson died Aug. 31 and no one claimed his remains, leading to an online post from the Legacy Options Funeral Home asking for mourners to attend his funeral at Sarasota National Cemetery.
That call was answered, as veterans and community members came together to attend his funeral. According to the Associated Press, more than 2,000 people joined together in Florida to honor the veteran.
Pearson served in the Army from 1962 to 1964 before being honorably discharged, according to the Miami Herald. Pearson went on to become an engineer and worked for Marriott Hotel Services Inc.
He was interred with full military honors.
