A year ago the Army increased the reward for information leading to the conviction of those responsible for the murder of Spc. Enrique Roman-Martinez to $25,000 after initially offering $15,000. Now the Army has again increased the reward, doubling it to $50,000.
The 82nd Airborne Division soldier had been on a camping trip to the North Carolina shore with several friends from the Army when he was reported missing.
“We are increasing the reward in the hopes of developing new credible leads to determine exactly what happened to our soldier,” Army CID said in a press statement. “We do not want to leave any stone unturned.”
After going missing in 2020, the 82nd Airborne sent paratroopers to help look for the missing soldier, and search dogs were brought in but no traces were found. He was listed missing until the soldier's severed head washed up on shore on May 29, 2020. The paratrooper's remains had to be confirmed via dental records.
Despite conducting hundreds of interviews and searching for physical evidence, the FBI and CID have been unable to find any tangible leads, although Roman-Martinez's death is being investigated as a homicide.
