A number of nonprofits and local businesses are joining forces during a food donation event today, at the Northern Navajo Nation Fairgrounds in Shiprock, New Mexico.

The Reveille Foundation, Driné Naazbaa’ Partnership, an affiliate of America’s Warrior Partnership, and the Phoenix Truck Driving Institute are joining forces with the Free-Fresh Community Impact Mission to support Navajo Nation military veterans and families in need.

"As we work to improve and expand services for veterans and their families here on the Navajo Nation, collaborations like this, with partners off the reservation, are so important in filling gaps until we get there,” said Inann Johns, community program lead for Driné Naazbaa’ Partnership.

The donation drop is the third collective effort of the year, with over 36,500 pounds of supplies, totaling 1,088 food boxes, being offered to 20 Chapter Veteran Organizations within the Northern Agency on the Navajo Nation. The previous two events, held in January and March, have helped more than 600 veterans and their families.

Donation events are made possible with the help of the Phoenix Truck Driving Institute, which has been providing logistics, helping with acquiring trucks and trailers for deliveries, securing use of school trailers for transportation and storage of donations, gathering donations from corporate offices, and donating the cost of packing boxes and decals.

“All my life, I've always had respect and appreciation for our nation's military and their families. The sacrifices they have endured are beyond words,” said Doug Prall, founder and CEO of HDS Inc., the parent company of Phoenix Truck Driving Institute
