Army veteran John “Jack” King and his wife Jean have lived the American dream for 40 years.

That is until Jack was diagnosed with Stage 4 non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. A medical professional, Jean paused her career to take care of her husband.

“It was absolutely worth it,” she said in a VA blog post

For help in her new role, Jean turned to the Caregiver Support Program offered by the Orlando VA Medical Center.

“They taught me how to make plans,” she said. "I have everything written down. Before, I had nothing.”

The program offers customized support to caregivers. VA Caregiver Support program social worker Tiffany Pundai said Jean’s stress level was high and confidence low when she entered the program.

“But after working together she was able to build a foundation of skills important for Jack’s recovery. I am grateful to be a part of their care and inspired by their level of dedication and optimism,” she said. “I am truly humbled to work with such amazing people.”

Caregivers can call the Caregiver Support Hotline at 855.260.3274 or join monthly live calls.
