Let’s roll!
The Rolling to Remember motorcycle rally that honors the nation’s veterans will stage May 30 at RFK Stadium’s Parking lot, according to AMVETS, the group hosting the event.
"The Mayor of Washington DC, Metropolitan Police, RFK Stadium and DC Events have stepped up big time,” AMVETS wrote in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
“The lot will be open for staging at 7AM,” the post continued. “We roll out at noon. Fully coordinated with multiple agencies. All the details coming later this week.”
The Department of Defense blocked a request from AMVETS to use the Pentagon Parking Lot as a staging area on March 11, citing concerns about COVID-19.
That raised the ire of some House Republicans, who sent a letter to President Joe Biden that asked him to reverse the decision by the DoD.
Rolling to Remember has replaced Rolling Thunder, a motorcycle rally with a more than 30-year history that sought to draw attention to the plight of the nation’s service members who are either missing in action or prisoners of war. Rolling to Remember has added focus on veteran suicide prevention as well as POW/MIA issues.
AMVETS expects 50,000 participants to take part in this year’s ride.
