Do you want to know what it was like to fly in a World War II aircraft?

The Capital Wing of the Commemorative Air Force will be giving out rides on different World War II warbirds July 17 and 18 and there are still tickets available.

The event will be held at Virginia's Hanover County Municipal Airport, located eight miles north of Richmond, at 11152 Air Park Road, Ashland.

Flights start at $99 and range to $1,200, according to a press release from CAF. The rides will take place between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

“Warbird rides are an opportunity for the public to sit in the same seats as did the crew of our aircraft in WWII. And feel the same power of the engines at take-off just as they did. And smell the smells they did,” Pete Ballard, Warbird Rides Coordinator for the Capital Wing, said.

“Providing these warbird rides is a part of the CAF mission to honor the thousands of men and women who built, serviced and piloted the vintage WWII aircraft we keep flying.”

There will be five warbirds at the event that are available to ride in, which include:

1.    Stinson L-5 Sentinel

2.    Boeing PT-17 Stearman

3.    General Motors TBM Avenger

4.    North American T-6/SNJ

5.    Fairchild PT-19 Cornell

The T-6/SNJ was built in 1944 as an SNJ-5 and was given to the Navy. After the war, it was passed on to private ownership and joined the air race circuit.

The CAF is also offering a “Torpedo Mission” experience, which includes a mission profile, aeronautical map of the flight area, a flight suit for the duration of the flight, and an extensive pre-flight briefing by the pilot and crew, just like it was done in 1944.

The TBM Avenger being flown by the Capital Wing is the exact same type aircraft President George H.W. Bush flew as a Naval Aviator off the decks of USS San Jacinto, assigned to Torpedo Squadron, according to the release.
