The Department of Veterans Affairs has approved $596 million in infrastructure improvements in the second quarter of fiscal year 2026.

The funding is part of a record $4.8 billion in nationwide VA spending on significant maintenance, replacements and upgrades needed to maintain and improve operational capability and healthcare delivery via the Veterans Health Administration’s Non-recurring Maintenance program.

“The historic investments we’re making in VA facilities across the nation are another reason why we’ve added more than 125,000 VA healthcare enrollees in 2026 alone,” VA Secretary Doug Collins said in a release.

The West Texas VA Health Care System will use the funding to support upgrades to electronic health record modernization infrastructure at the Tier 2 Datacenter in Big Spring, along with boiler replacements at the George H. O’Brien, Jr. VA Medical Center.

The VA Northern Indiana Health Care System will utilize the funding to repair the deaerator cooling tank at the Marion VA Medical Center and install a water softener SPS at Fort Wayne VA Medical Center.

“This funding allows both Fort Wayne VA Medical Center and Marion VA Medical Center to continue modernizing and improving, so our facilities remain safe, efficient, and equipped to provide high-quality care for our Veterans in the Northern Indiana region,” said VANIHCS Executive Director Jon Beidelschies in a release.

Of the nearly $4.8 billion committed for FY 2026, VA has obligated $1.064 billion through the second quarter. Obligation of funds includes $795 million to repair and upgrade outdated infrastructure systems in medical facilities; $255 million for maintenance and modernization of facility infrastructure to support future electronic health record system updates; and $13 million for major building upgrades like elevators, electrical systems and boiler plants.
