The 2005 film, written and directed by Gus Van Sant and produced by HBO Films, was loosely based on the life and turmoil of late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain -- who took his own life in April of 1994 at the age of 27.

Back in 2022, the movie's operatic form composed by Oliver Leith debuted at the Royal Opera House’s Linbury Theatre in London, though at the time reps for Cobain’s estate petitioned the production saying it was created and written, “without the permission or input” of the estate. In a statement of their own, the Royal Opera House reiterated that their production of Last Days was an adaptation of Van Sant’s 2005 film, “a fictionalized account, and was produced with the permissions of Gus Van Sant and HBO.”

Either way, the show must go on, and for the U.S. version, singer Caroline Polachek has provided a new song, titled ‘Non Voglio Mai Vedere Il Sole Tramontare’. Listen below.

Tickets are available now for the U.S. premiere of Last Days at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles on February 6, promising a performance that “plunges into the torment that created a modern myth,” as the story follows the main character Blake, a musician who escapes a treatment facility and eventually ends his own life.
