Researchers at Stanford University say that smartwatches may have an unintended ability to detect coronavirus before you experience symptoms, the Daily Mail reports.

There's not a lot of data that researchers went off of for this study, but I think it's interesting. They looked at smartwatch data from 31 cases and found that changes in heart rate, number of steps, and sleep was apparent in 80%. In some of those cases, signs of change were clear nine days before the subjects' symptoms began showing up.

Researchers in this study say that their COVID-19 detection algorithm needs fine tuning before it's reliable, but still believe smartwatches can be used as a tool to help slow or stop the spread of coronavirus by helping people detect it as early as possible.

I've been wanting to get a smart watch for safety and health reasons, so maybe this is the time I should get one. I mean, I hate to be so pessimistic, but there probably won't be a Black Friday this year so why not just jump in and get it, right? (Black Friday is what I'm trying to wait for.)
