A man who lives in the Bay Area has been labeled a 'Karen' for moving to Austin, Texas, because he hated California, ending up HATING Austin, and then moving back to California and hating it all over again.
Brett Alder came on the Internet's Karen radar after writing an opinion piece for Business Insider (via Daily Mail) about why Austin is NOT the "California of Texas." Alder complained about terrible drivers in Texas, awful weather (he can only handle dry heat), monoculture, rude locals, and even had some beef with Yelp reviews.
Before moving to his $1.8 million home in the Bay, he also complained about Austin's obsession with luxury homes. Hmm ok lol.
He then went on to say that he believes moving his family to Reno, Nevada, will be the answer, citing on Twitter its proximity to all things California (i.e. the Tahoe experience) without actually having to live in California. Sorry, Placerville.
Do you empathize with this guy? Is he being a Karen, or are his concerns totally valid? I've lived in several different cities that all had something different to offer. You make sacrifices in one area of life to have great things that are important to you. If you hate it, you leave (which is what he's doing) or you can just deal with it. I feel like he will never be happy anywhere he goes. No offense to Reno, but I can't imagine this guy will call it his forever home.
