California will require all state and healthcare workers to show proof that they've had the COVID-19 vaccination, or will be required to get tested weekly in lieu of proof of vaccination, the AP reports.
The new rule will go into effect next month for California's 238,000 state employees and 2 million healthcare workers in both public and private sectors.
The new requirement announcement comes as vaccination rates have slowed and hospitalizations begin to rise due to COVID-19 and the delta variant.
The AP says an estimated 80% of cases in California are caused by the highly contagious delta variant.
