The latest true crime docuseries that you need to binge watch on Netflix is Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel. I watched it all last night, and I have a few quick thoughts without any spoilers.
1. The former general manager of the Cecil Hotel featured throughout the series is like, IN LOVE with the hotel or something. I cracked up a few times at some of the things she'd say about the hotel and HOW she'd say them...I'm sure she just really loved her job there, but it almost comes off as if she wants to date the hotel. I said something about this on Twitter/Instagram and one of my friends echoed the same thought. So I'm not the only one!
2. While this series doesn't totally follow the Night Stalker case, I'd consider it to be a good follow-up to the Night Stalker docuseries that Netflix began streaming last month. They provide some gruesome facts about the Night Stalker's stay at the Cecil Hotel, and just knowing a little bit about that case makes these details soooooo crazy. You don't necessarily have to see Night Stalker before you watch this, but I thought that as a true crime fan and someone who watches way too much Netflix, these two docuseries fit together really well in terms of storytelling.
3. While they provide many facts in this docuseries, as they should, I found it interesting that they talked extensively about "synchronicities" in the Elisa Lam case at the center of this docuseries. Essentially, they point out several coincidences between the case, geography, Elisa's name, etc. that make the case seem crazier. This is where it starts to lean towards conspiracy theories, which I don't like, but it's interesting nonetheless.
