If you're not used to flood conditions like what Sacramento and the Bay Area have been experiencing, you may not realize why it's a bad idea to attempt driving through flood waters. The National Weather Service shared a video that demonstrates exactly what could happen if you do, and why it's (obviously) a terrible idea.
The animated video shows a small car attempting to pass through flood waters. The car gets carried away by the waters, the driver unable to control or stop the vehicle. Eventually it sinks after getting caught in a tree. (Watch the video here.)
According to the NWS, more than half of flooding deaths occur in vehicles. It takes just 12 inches of flowing water to lift a small car, and 18 to 24 inches for larger vehicles.
