A new documentary on Oxygen will follow Sacramento serial killer Dorthea Puente's four days on the run after seven bodies were discovered buried in her backyard, the Daily Mail reports.
Not having been from Sacramento originally, I was not aware of this story but it's absolutely CRAZY. In case you're not familiar with it either, I'll give you the gist of it.
In November 1988, a report of a missing man led authorities to Puente's home in Sacramento where they discovered the bodies of seven people.
Puente, who was 59 at the time, leased rooms to people in her home, many of whom were "disabled and sick."
One of the tenants contacted investigators telling them that "another boarder had seemingly vanished and that Puente had hired prisoners on furlough to dig holes in her backyard." So of course investigators dug up her backyard and discovered a human leg and foot...and seven different bodies total.
Puente claimed to know nothing about the human remains they'd found, and was granted permission by investigators to meet with her nephew for coffee. That's when she FLED, and a four-day nationwide manhunt ensued.
Authorities theorize that Puente had killed tenants to claim their social security checks.
