There appears to be a budding bromance between two of San Francisco’s most recognizable sports stars.

After blasting a birthday home run in a 5-2 win over the Mets on Wednesday, Giants first baseman Brandon Belt was asked by NBC Sports Bay Area about recent comments made by Warriors guard Klay Thompson, who said he and Belt can “co-captain” the Bay Area together.

Klay, of course, is known for wearing a Belt Captain hat on The Bay while driving his boat. And Belt, of course, made an epic Opening Day entrance on a boat as he continues to lean in to his The Captain alter ego he whipped up last year.

NBC Sports Bay Area’s Laura Britt asked Belt if he’s ready to accept Klay’s “co-captain” invitation.

“First of, I absolutely have a boat,” Belt said. “I’m more on the freshwater side than the saltwater. But I’m 100 percent down with being co-captains. I can be Captain of baseball, we got a basketball one, that’d be great to get a football and a hockey one as well. We can even have secret Captain meetings if they want to. I’m down for anything.”

There ya have it. Secret Bay Area sports Captain meetings, confirmed!

Once the Warriors postseason run is over, it would be pretty hilarious to see Klay and Belt meet up and talk about the responsibility of being a Captain. Maybe Klay can even skiff Belt over to Oracle Park one day and he can make a proper boat entrance to McCovey Cove.
