With Buster Posey’s imminent retirement, the conversation has shifted to the catcher’s legacy and career. Is it Cooperstown-worthy?
Former Giants outfielder Hunter Pence joined 95.7 The Game’s “Willard & Dibs” hours before Posey’s retirement announcement at Oracle Park Thursday.
“Surefire hall of famer if you ask me,” Pence said. “There’s no doubt about it.”
Pence won a pair of World Series rings with Posey and the Giants in 2012 and 2014. While Pence was known for his fiery demeanor and intense playing style, Posey was known for his quiet, lead-by-example style.

Pence said Posey had something burning within him, too, though.
“He had a competitive fire fiercer than you would ever understand unless you saw him behind the scenes,” Pence said. “Because he seems so calm out there. When I talk about spiritual fire and competitive fire, he was extraordinarily competitive, he hated to lose.”
