Robbie Gould is in the midst of his 17th NFL season, so he’s seen a thing or two around the league.

Even though the 49ers are 6-6 and clinging to the final NFC playoff spot, Gould had some high praise to share for his coach Kyle Shanahan and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo Monday during his appearance on 95.7 The Game’s “The Morning Roast” Monday. Listen to the full interview below:

“Those guys – there’s a reason that they win,” Gould said. “I think we have one of the greatest play-callers to probably ever call an offense in the history of the National Football League. You have a guy like Jimmy G who’s a winner. That’s what he does. I think those guys are able to get on the same page and run plays that everyone is comfortable with.”

While Shanahan’s offenses haven’t been prolific in San Francisco, he is renowned for his creativity. Garoppolo, meanwhile, totes a 28-13 record as a starter with the 49ers despite his pedestrian statistics.

Gould and the Niners have a tough five-week stretch to close out the season that includes three difficult road games, starting with Sunday’s matchup at the Cincinnati Bengals. Gould said the 49ers have their sights set on more than just making the first round.

“The goal’s never to just get to the playoffs,” Gould said. “I’ll be the first one to tell you. I’ve got three kids – I don’t believe in participation ribbons. You know what I mean? Just getting to the playoffs – if that’s your mentality in the locker room, I guarantee those guys won’t be here on this team very long. You walk by five Super Bowl trophies everyday when you come to work. Getting to the playoffs is a goal but it’s not the ultimate goal. You’re not going to be happy just getting to the playoffs.”

Gould also promoted his collaboration with d.hudson Golf Wear on his charitable RG9 hat series. If you buy a cap, portions of the proceeds will go to help First Tee Silicon Valley, a non-profit organization which strives to make golf more accessible.

“I’m pretty excited about being part of this,” Gould said. “I think it’s great to be able to give back to the community.”
