Evgeni Malkin’s Gold team got the better of Sidney Crosby’s Black squad, 3-0, in the Penguins first training camp scrimmage at PPG Paints Arena.
Jason Zucker scored 32 seconds into the first of two periods while Colton Sceviour celebrated the birth of his latest child several minutes later, burying a nice feed from Teddy Blueger.
Bryan Rust scored the other goal in the second period taking a pass from Malkin to finish off a 3-on-0 break against a defenseless Casey DeSmith, who didn’t a ton of help for much of the scrimmage.
Tristan Jarry was rarely tested during his 40-minute shutout, but did have to stop Jake Guentzel on a couple of breakaways. “The first one he made a nice glove save and a little pressure from (behind) on the second one, couldn’t really get it to settle,” he chuckled, “obviously have to work on those for the season.”
The Pens will practice and scrimmage again tomorrow before taking Thursday off.
