NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Have you laughed today?
Friday marks national “Let’s Laugh Day,” and experts are promoting the benefits of having a good chuckle.
Dr. Sabrina Romanoff, of Lenox Hill Hospital, says laughter can help your body and improve your perspective on life.
“There's a host of physical health benefits when it comes to laughter and most importantly, it helps with the intake of oxygen and it jolts your vital organs,” she tells WCBS 880’s Sophia Hall. “It also helps with the release of endorphins, so that facilitates a positive mood, and it alleviates pain and stress. There's a strong corollary between laughter and your physical health.”
The doctor says laughter can make a person feel better in a host of ways, from being sad, gaining a more positive outlook on life and getting over a common cold.
“Laughter the best medicine and it's predicated on your ability to really indicate mental flexibility,” Dr. Romanoff said.
Some experts have even suggested laughter can help people live longer.
And Hall has met some people who would testify to that.
Last year, she interviewed a woman who was turning 100-years-old and when she asked her the secret to long life, the woman said wine and laughter.
