Taco Bell just announced that they'll be partnering with the recycling company TerraCycle to give their hot sauce packets a "spicier second life that doesn't involve a landfill,” according to a press release.

More than 8 billion sauce packets are thrown away every year in the United States, according to CNN Business. Taco Bell believes wasting all of those packets may not be good for the environment.

A recent study in “Science” discovered that 710 million metric tons of plastic could pollute the environment by 2040.

There aren't many details on how the fast food chain will be recycling the packets, but they did say that the program is going to start sometime this year. The information provided says that it will most likely involve their customers using free shipping to send them back to the company.

"In the food industry today, there is no widely available solution for recycling the flexible film packets that are so commonly used for condiments," the press release stated.
