NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Prospective homeowners are getting a chance to be a part of history.
SQ4D, a Long Island, New York construction technology company, says it has listed for sale the first 3D-printed home in the United States, and possibly even the world.
The home, which will be located on a quarter-acre of property on Millbrook Lane in Riverhead, hit the market for $299,999.

Kirk Andersen, director of operations for SQ4D, said all the permits are in order, including a certificate of occupancy, and he hopes to get work underway on the property in a matter of weeks. They're just waiting on the weather to clear.
The home will be "printed" on site using the firm's patent-pending Autonomous Robotic Construction System to build the concrete footings, foundations, interior and exterior walls — accounting for nearly half of the total construction.
The 1,500-square foot space will feature three bedrooms, two full bathrooms as well as a 2.5-car detached garage.

While the home is not yet up, Andersen tells WCBS 880 an open house over the weekend drew crowds of people, including in the middle of a snowstorm Sunday, to tour their demo home, which shows proof of concept.
According to the company, the 1,900-square-foot demo home took 48 hours of print time over an eight-day period and the Riverhead property should take about the same amount of time.
The company says their 3D printed homes are stronger, more durable and come at a fraction of the cost of traditional wood-frame houses.
"At $299,999, this home is priced 50% below the cost of comparable newly-constructed homes in Riverhead, NY and represents a major step towards addressing the affordable housing crisis plaguing Long Island," said Stephen King of Realty Connect, the Zillow Premier agent who has the listing.
Andersen believes 3D printing is going to change the construction industry, and not just in real estate, but all infrastructure. His message is: don't be afraid of automation.
The company is looking to take up more projects in 2021 and scale up. It currently has plans being reviewed from New York to California.
