“I don’t know how much I’m supposed to share, I’ll be vaguely specific,” Brett replied when asked when fans should expect. “I think a new single in April and an album early to mid-summer.”

While he couldn’t go into further detail, Young did share he’s playing some of his new songs on the road with his current Back to Basics tour and taking note of audience responses to see what will ultimately make the record.

“We’re playing most of the new music live on the tour now, so I do my best to read the audience… Sometimes, some X factor can happen with an audience with a song they’ve never heard before.” He continued, “The first time we saw that happen was with ‘Mercy’ back with my first record, so I’m always kind of looking for that reaction with the new music.”

The crowd reactions are crucial for Young who admits his family has a tough time being honest about his music, especially his two daughters Presley (5) and Rowan (3). “My daughters are like, full-blown cheerleaders for me, so I can’t really judge their reaction because they love everything. If I listened to them, I would think that every idea I came up with is a Platinum record.”

He continued, “My wife is a little more honest. She always says the right thing, but I know her well enough to know if she’s feeling it or not.”
