Moroney and Cooper took things back to the 2022 release of her debut single, “Tennessee Orange,” which sparked dating rumors about her and fellow Country artist, Morgan Wallen. With the lyrics matching Wallen to a T, it seemed obvious to many that the two were an item, however Moroney always declined to comment on their relationship status… until now.
According to Megan, the pair “never exclusively,” dated. “I have so tried to avoid that in every single interview I've ever done, but we're here now and time has passed and all is well, so."
She continued on to explain the apparent “situationship” between the two remained tightly under wraps at the time and all started after they met in 2020. "Okay, here's what I'll tell you, though, because I haven't told anyone this ever," Moroney said. "So him and I met in 2020 — Jon Langston actually introduced us. I was a senior in college. COVID hadn't happened yet. His Dangerous album wasn't even out yet."
She continued, "So we were friends for a long time, we were not just friends. And now we're friends." While still keeping things mostly close to her chest, Moroney did share that she believes their busy schedules kept them apart.
“I think both of our schedules ... when we try to hang out, it's like, 'Okay, we have this one day of the whole month where we're both maybe in town and the someone's got something going on," she explained. "But him and I are friends."
While Moroney agreed to open up about she and Wallen’s past “status,” she shared she’ll never reveal whether or not the song, “Tennessee Orange,” is actually about him.
"I will not say what my songs are about ever," she told Cooper.
