Back in December of 2022 the Black-ish actress revealed via an Instagram story that she had been experiencing severe pain before being diagnosed and having them removed. She wrote, "If you missed my live, long story short, I had surgery for my large ovarian cyst that gave me constant pain for 4+ years."

With this being the first time she's spoken about it out loud since her posts, she has assured us that she is good and well, "I'm grateful that I was able to change and able to fix it" before the size of the cysts progressed as they can be as big as a grapefruit and hers was the size of a softball.

She explained to Big Tigger and Ms. Pat that she felt motivated to share her story because when she got her diagnosis she went on a deep dive to hear about other's experiences and found that there was little to no information of women sharing their experiences with ovarian cysts.

She recalled that the pain was "excruciating" and took away some very memorable moments for her because the pain would be so severe she'd often have to call out sick.

"I go on YouTube and see different vlogs and stuff and I was looking for other women talking about it just other women that were like 'hey this is my journey,'" she continued "but there was none of that... and that's really what made me want to talk about it. I wasn't gonna say nothing at all, and just kinda' go through the motions but I mean what I went through, so many other girls go through but they just don't have like an outlet for them to really express how they feel about it. So yeah, I just wanted to be that voice for young girls like me or even older," she said.

But on a more light-hearted note she shared that since turning 18, it has been going down in her DMs.

"It can be a little overwhelming at times because the dudes come in and the little DMs every now and then," she jokingly shared, "and my parents are my friends so I be like 'oooh guess who came in, guess who slid in my DMs.'"
