Kate was pronounced Duchess and tiara on her wedding day to Prince William. She borrowed this haute topper, dating back to 1936 when it was made by Cartier, from Queen Mother-in-law Elizabeth. As if her Alexander McQueen gown wasn’t luxe enough.

The public had to wait over two years before Kate’s next tiara sighting. In December 2013, the Duchess of Cambridge was spotted donning the Lotus Flower (also referred to as the Papyrus Tiara) on her way back from the annual diplomatic reception at Buckingham Palace.

By her third time wearing a tiara, Kate was a natural. She wore the Lotus Flower tiara again at a royal event honoring China’s President Xi Jinping in 2015.

Kate was seen leaving the annual diplomatic reception at Buckingham Palace crowned with the Lover’s Knot tiara, one of the late Princess Diana’s faves.

Is it a royal faux pas to wear the same tiara to the annual diplomatic ball? Not when it’s as iconic as the Lover’s Knot.

Okay, she really loves this one! She wore it again at a state event for the king and queen of Spain in July 2017. The Lover’s Knot is an early 1910s replica of the original Cambridge Lover’s Knot, a diamond showstopper now assumed to be held in an anonymous private collection.

The public finally got to see the Lover’s Knot in its glory AKA outside the back seat of a car when Middleton wore it with this steely blue gown, the Queen Alexandra Wedding Necklace and her stately royal order.
