NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – An 18-year-old driver led a New York trooper on a high-speed chase through Orange County—clocking a speed of 148 mph—before he was arrested, charged and slapped with 43 tickets, state police said Friday.

The pursuit began on State Route 17 in Goshen around 10:15 a.m. Sunday after the trooper recorded a 2003 Infiniti G35 going 117 mph in a 65 mph zone.

As the trooper pursued the driver, the Infiniti “was weaving in and out of traffic without signaling and cutting off other motorists,” police said.

The driver then attempted to “hide” in a park-and-ride lot at exit 129 but was found by the trooper, according to police.

When the trooper walked up to the Infiniti, the driver sped off, heading back onto State Route 17 east and then onto I-87 south, police said.

The trooper gave chase again but terminated the pursuit for safety reasons after the Infiniti reached a speed of 148 mph in a 65 mph zone, according to police.

The trooper managed to get a “visual” of the driver and obtain the license plate number of the Infiniti, which was linked to another vehicle out of New York City, police said.

The trooped reached out to the owner of the vehicle in the city and discovered he or she was a relative of the teen driver, according to police.

“Through the use of social media, the trooper saw photographs with the suspect standing next to the Infiniti G-35 with the switched plate,” police said.

State police worked with the NYPD to locate the Infiniti and the alleged driver in Queens.

The NYPD arrested the teen and turned him over to state police.

The 18-year-old, who has not been identified, was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, a felony, as well as reckless driving and third-degree fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, both misdemeanors.

The teen was released on an appearance ticket and was issued 43 tickets, including for going 117 mph in a 65 mph zone and 148 mph in a 65 mph zone, police said.
