Historically the Juneteenth Celebration of Freedom falls on the day Texans were told that the Civil War had ended and all the slaves were freed in 1865. This was 2 1/2 years after President Abraham Lincoln issued The Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863

Juneteenth became a National Holiday on June 19, 2021. The bill signed by President Joe Biden. As well as the Austin City Council  making Juneteenth an official holiday in Austin .

President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden will be hosting an early Juneteenth Concert on Tuesday 6/13 on the South Lawn. Performances will feature Jennifer HudsonMethod Man, Ledisi, Audra McDonald, the Tennessee State University Marching Band and more!

Juneteenth 2023 Celebrations in the ATX area will honor those who survived an inhumane system and thrived. Community parades, festivals and tribute events will bring people together to commemorate the past while standing up for Social Justice in Central Texas!
