Monday, January 10, 2022 the first coin of the American Women Quarters™ Program was released. Honoring the first Black woman to ever appear on the U.S. quarter, a legendary poet and activist, Dr. Maya Angelou. Angelou is on the 'tails' side with George Washington on the 'heads.'

The American Women Quarters Program is a four-year coin program. The quarters are created at the Mint facilities in Philadelphia and Denver. Dr. Maya Angelou's quarter is one of 20 trailblazing American women. Each year the series will feature 5 remarkable women in their fields from 2022 through 2025. The class of 2022 features Dr. Maya Angelou, Dr. Sally Ride, Wilma Mankiller, Nina Otero-Warren & Anna May Wong.

The American Women Quarters Program first shipment of Dr. Maya Angelou quarters were sent out (1/10/22). Keep an eye out on your change. Check your local bank. A historical collection in the making.
