Those looking to travel this summer may want to start planning earlier than they expected. American Airlines recently announced they will slash the number of flights this summer nationwide due to their ongoing pilot shortage. DFW Airport will be one of the most affected, as over 5,000 flights have been removed from the schedule.

With American Airlines removing thousands of flights from the summer schedule, travelers will have far fewer options for traveling this year. While travel agents say the move was not a surprise, it is expected to have major impact on the airline industry. According to WFAA, DFW International Airport will have 5,054 fewer American Airlines flights this summer.

DFW Airport isn’t the only major airport affected, as Chicago O'Hare had 5,910 cuts and Charlotte Douglas International Airport had almost 4,000 flights removed. While there will be fewer American Airlines flights, DFW will still have 800 departures every day this summer. At least now there is even less reason to leave Texas.
