Dallas resident Shenita Cleveland knows the power social media can harbor.
For the past year, she’s been highlighting and raising awareness about a problem plaguing the city: just how many potholes there are.
She’s posted hundreds of images of the city’s potholes to her Instagram page, with the hopes of sparking some sort of action from city leaders.
Cleveland, who has come to be known as the “Pothole Queen,” told WFAA, “Recently on TikTok, I saw a lot of New York, you know, some of the residents that went by just talking about their situation and the potholes that surrounded them and saw how fast the city government responded.
“I said, you know, if they can do it, I know that Dallas can do it too.”
Cleveland says her posts have garnered the reactions she wanted and has posted videos of city crews patching up and repairing potholes.
“You're able to use your voice without being elected or hold people accountable,” she said. “You want to feel that and see the change. It makes you happy.”
